The Management Acceleration Programme is specifically conceived for high-performing functional experts who are about, or have recently begun, to manage people. The programme will equip you with the perspectives and skills to work effectively across functions and cultures and will broaden your business expertise and strengthen your competence in key functional disciplines. It will also deepen your ability to lead and follow mindfully, effectively and responsibly in a business world where volatility, uncertainty and pressure are the norm.

The Management Acceleration Programme curriculum focuses on three domains: strengthening your leadership foundations and skills; sharpening your strategic insight; providing the tools to understand and manage all aspects of a business. Content-driven session streams alternate with experiential opportunities designed to make the learning personal and integrate it into a coherent, actionable whole.
Throughout the programme participants take part in lectures, simulation exercises, group coaching and 360° feedback whilst focusing on three key areas:
- Leadership foundations and skills - helps you examine how you lead, why, and on whose behalf in your work. It will also give you the skills to lead and work within diverse teams and across functions and cultures.
- Strategic Insight - helps you grasp the essence of strategic analysis, including the latest techniques. As well as understanding how to compete as a single company within a single industry, you will learn how to build and manage a portfolio of businesses.
- Business knowledge and tools - The programme will take you on a learning journey through all parts of a business that create, capture and deliver value. You will gain a broad perspective on business and the tools to analyse complex problems in each functional area, regardless of your own background.
Optional follow-up coaching for learning enhancement
Just as the 3-week programme preparation work, design and experiences aim to maximise participants’ learning while on campus, our series of optional follow-up virtual coaching sessions aim to maximise participants’ ongoing learning and development as they return to the workplace—thereby leveraging their own and their organisation's investment in the programme in the months following the return home.
Included in the programme fee is one follow-up coaching session. We also offer an additional five virtual follow-up sessions. These sessions are not included in the tuition fee.
The sessions will last one hour and will be conducted over the telephone and/or internet telecoms. They will be entirely confidential. To be eligible, participants must have attended the programme in the past 12 months.
Why should I choose INSEAD above other business schools?
We think our diversity is our distinguishing feature. INSEAD is probably the only school where you’ll find 25 nationalities in the same class. And it’s certainly the only school where no single one of those 25 nationalities will predominate. Having said that, our faculty are among the best (and most diverse) in the world too!
Why is diversity such a big deal?
The obvious answer is that business is more international than ever before. But it’s the subtle answer that’s much more powerful. With so many different national and cultural perspectives to learn from, you really will start to see things differently. By challenging your old assumptions, you’ll become aware of new possibilities and start to understand how very differently people think.
What’s the difference between the modular and continuous versions?
The content is almost identical. However, we think it makes sense to spend a little more time on Asian issues during the two weeks of the modular version that’s spent in Singapore. We’d recommend the modular version to those who have a special interest in Asia or who are looking for an even more international experience than INSEAD usually offers! Please note that the modules aren’t interchangeable.
Three weeks seems like a big commitment – can I afford so much time away?
You need three weeks to gain the distance for reflection on your work and yourself. We also need that time to cover the ambitious curriculum. But the modular version offers a little more flexibility. And the consecutive version runs three times a year, enabling you to plan the programme into your hectic schedule.
Is the emphasis on soft leadership skills or hard knowledge, tools and frameworks?
To be successful in business you need to balance your soft skills with your fundamental business understanding. So the programme seeks to enhance your understanding across the full business spectrum, while also developing your leadership capabilities. It’s such an integrated programme that soft and hard skills are intertwined and built together.
Do I have to attend the sessions on my own area of expertise?
Absolutely. First, you might gain a new perspective on your field. And second, you’ll have the valuable experience of passing on your expertise to classmates from other disciplines. It’s by sharing insights that people learn at INSEAD, as well as by listening to the wisdom of our faculty of course.

Management Acceleration Programme participants are so diverse that it is hard to generalise, however, they tend to fit the following profile:
- Individual contributors who aspire to gain, or have recently gained, management responsibilities
- Functional experts whose success depends on understanding the business as a whole, effective cross-functional interactions and ability to influence without formal authority
- People with potential for future senior management positions/roles
- Typically graduates with between five and twelve years of work experience
There are approximately 25 nationalities in each session and an even greater diversity of backgrounds. We ensure that everyone has a comparable level of skills and experiences.

As well as becoming part of your own class community, participants leave the Management Acceleration Programme as full members of the INSEAD alumni community. Only graduates of our world-famous MBA, Executive MBA and PhD programmes, together with selected former Executive Education participants, are eligible for this status. This elite worldwide network consists of over 42,000 alumni in around 160 countries, many with very active National Alumni Associations. Having already lived and worked in Asia, I wanted to study at a world-class business school based in Europe to experience a diverse study environment outside of my usual comfort zone.
I chose the Management Acceleration Programme at INSEAD to further develop my leadership and management skills. The programme was a three week intensive programme, covering a range of areas such as leadership foundations and skills, strategic insight, finance and management accounting, marketing and operations and supply chain management.
One of the attractions of this programme was to experience a learning environment with a diverse group of people, at similar ages and stages in their working life. I had the opportunity to interact with people from over 16 different nationalities, all bringing dynamic and interesting experiences and backgrounds to the group.
I was also interested in the opportunity to live on campus for three weeks to allow compete focus on study, to share our points of view at the end of each day and to have networking opportunities.

Often, someone who has been outstanding at work receives a promotion – but is he or she prepared to cope with the new role? An example is when an individual becomes a manager for the first time. In our organisation, it was up to me to ensure seamless transitions for these people – and I knew that this could be done through INSEAD’s Management Acceleration Programme.

It was my director who recommended the programme to me. My manager did the programme a couple of years back and was so enthusiastic that I just had to try it for myself!
In my case, I was looking mainly for new insights and an academic approach to business. The way the Management Acceleration Programme combines this with a more personal approach to growth made it the perfect fit. I wasn’t prepared for how amazing the experience turned out to be.
